Blue Mountain B&B
Blue Mountain B&B is nestled on the mountainside among majestic Ponderosa Pines and meditative water gardens, creating a uniquely tranquil experience just minutes away from Missoula's business, sporting and cultural centers. The Inn and gardens offer a breathtaking, birds-eye view of the Bitterroot River, surrounding mountains and valley below, including part of the historic Lewis and Clark Trail.
Elegant breakfasts and private rooms offer guests luxury and comfort, complementing the rustic, wooded surroundings of Blue Mountain. Rooms have private baths with jetted tubs, new king or queen bed, picturesque views and many amenities that make one's stay both memorable and relaxing. With just four private rooms and twenty acres of wildlife habitat immediately adjacent to National Forest, Blue Mountain B&B gives each guest a special sense of privacy, while creating a home for many native birds, chipmunks and other animals. It is truly the perfect mountain retreat- offering comfort, convenience, beauty and a sense of warm, casual elegance to the vacationer and business traveler alike.
Because we are conveniently located between Missoula and Lolo, you will find opportunities from theater and fine dining to river rafting, backpacking and hunting within minutes of our facility: Enjoy being immersed in historical intrigue, shopping, cultural and sporting events either on The University of Montana campus, or in Missoula's larger Five Valley's Region. Travelers' Rest State Park and the Lolo Trail are only four miles from our door, offering people a chance to follow in the footsteps of not only Lewis and Clark, but of early trappers, area pioneers and the Salish and Nez Perce people. This area was part of the original homeland of the Salish and offers a wealth of cultural information related to the Bitterroot flower and tribal spiritual helpers such as Coyote and Blue Jay. If you have a day or more to spend, The Bison Range, Flathead Lake, Glacier National Park, and several prominent ghost towns, battlefield sites and nature preserves are within a half an hour to a short day's drive away. One of the many single-day outings that is truly enjoyable is to follow the Nez Perce/Lewis and Clark Trail, reliving parts of the expedition as you stop at Travelers' Rest and Fort Fizzle, take a soak in Lolo Hot Springs, picnic at Packer Meadows and stroll through the DeVoto Cedar Grove where the Lewis and Clark journals were first edited by Bernard DeVoto. Not only are there plenty of attractions within Missoula, but Blue Mountain itself offers guests a variety of opportunities including nature hikes, geocaching and horse back riding excursions. The Missoula area is full of interesting historical personalities including miners, moonshiners and mountain men. Local names such as Hellgate Canyon and Deadman Gulch come with colorful stories all of their own and offer a window into this area's amazing past! Spend a memorable day on the green, in white powder, on a river or in the mountains. We can recommend a variety of reputable guides, outfitters and facilities which will complete your Montana vacation with loads of fun and excitement. The Bitterroot River, which is just below The Inn, offers guests a convenient way to enjoy some tubing, fishing, or a good old fashioned day of fun in the sun. *Guided wildlife walks, historical tours and sporting opportunities are available through a variety of seasonal specials and we are happy to recommend local guide services. Missoula lies within a beautiful mountainous area where five valleys and three major rivers converge. Historically it has been a major travel corridor for tribal people, trappers, explorers and pioneer settlers, giving the area a rich historic past. A stroll through the city cemetery or the downtown area offers visitors the chance to step back in time and "get acquainted" with a variety of historic places and personalities- first U.S. congresswoman, Jeannette Rankin, and Missoula's famous madam, Mary Gleim, to name two. Galleries, museums, boutiques, specialty shops, vendors, and the river-front park area, including Dragon Hollow and Missoula's Carousel, transform this historic area into a living adventure for all! Missoula is nicknamed the "Garden City" because of its lush green landscape and dense trees. Seven golf courses and a beautiful river-front park and trail system add to the city's garden-like feel. Missoula lies within 100 miles of seven wilderness areas, it is just 140 miles from Glacier National Park and 270 from Yellowstone.
Travelers' Rest, just four miles from the B&B, is the only scientifically verified encampment along The Lewis and Clark Trail. In addition, U of M's Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library houses the earliest authorized edition of the Lewis and Clark journals. Snowbowl Ski area, a twenty minute drive from Missoula, offers the longest vertical drops in the nation and is used for Olympic training. (There are at least a dozen ski areas within a day's drive of Missoula and four that are no more than 100 miles away.) Recreationally, the Missoula area offers some of the best blue ribbon trout fishing, white water rafting, big game hunting and scenic splendor in the nation. Missoulians have a well-known reputation for showing home-town team spirit. "The Griz" have won two NCAA I-AA national football championships and have been in the playoffs for a record of 13 consecutive years (2005). Their mascot, Monte, is a national celebrity-rated the 2003 and 2005 Capital One National Macot of the year. The Missoula area is home to many internationally acclaimed artists, musicians and writers. In addition, visiting artists from around the world share their talents during Missoula's many seasonal festivals- Montana's Festival of the Book, The International Choral Festival, The Buddy DiFranko Jazz Festival, The International Wildlife Film Festival and several powwows, to name just a few.
