History buffs will be interested to know that with the founding of St. Mary Mission in 1841, Stevensville became the first pioneer settlement in Montana. The original Mission is still standing a few blocks from the B&B and is well worth a visit and a guided tour. You can also visit the original Fort Owen or retrace the steps of Lewis and Clark as they traversed the area.

While debatable, it is entirely possible that the Corp of Discovery camped at the confluence of the Clark Fork River and Rattlesnake creek, merely 50 yards downstream from Goldsmith's.
