The World Museum of Mining

Butte Montana, famous for its copper mining in the early 20th century, is home to the World Museum of Mining. Here you will get a glimpse of what is was like for the miners who worked under the ground day in and day out. The Underground Mine Tour will take you 65 feet into the Orphan Girl Mine where you can hear the stories of life under ground, and imagine what it was like to work in such an environment.
Learn about the heyday of copper mining in Montana. Before open pit mining became the way to extract ore from the ground, miners lived their days in tunnels under the ground. It was dangerous, dirty work. The museum helps you to imagine what it was like for the men who worked there.
Hell Roarin’ Gulch is a recreation of a 1890’s town, complete with thousands of artifacts from the original mining town. Take some time to wander around the town and see what life was like when copper mining was king.
The museum is located at 155 Museum Way, Butte, MT 59701, close to downtown Butte and just off of US 15. Make it a must see when you are staying in the Butte area.
