Hockaday Museum of Art

The scenic beauty of Montana is often captured via painting and art.  What better place to see it than at the Hockaday Museum of Art in downtown Kalispell.

The museum is dedicated to preserving the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park.  Artists of Montana are featured in the permanent collection.  See famous works by Charles M. Russell, Hugh Hockaday, John Fery, Jeanne Hamilton, and more.  There is an exhibit dedicated to Glacier National Park.  This includes photographs and paintings, as well as Park collectibles.

The Hockaday houses several sections of murals that once graced the lodges of Glacier National Park.  Discarded in the early 60’s, these fine pieces of art and history have been salvaged and restored so that the public can once again view them.

Located in the old Carnegie Library Building on 2nd Ave. East, the museum is wheelchair accessible (don’t let the huge flight of stairs put you off.  Go around to the side and ring the bell.)  The building itself is something to see from both the inside and out.

The Hockaday is wonderful to experience all year around.  Because it is relatively small, you will be able to see it in a few hours.  A great place to go if the weather is not cooperating with your outdoor plans.
