Livingston Depot Center

Founded by the Northern Pacific Railroad, Livingston was a central point for railway workers and visitors travelling to Yellowstone National Park.  The passenger depot, built in 1902, is still a welcoming center for Yellowstone visitors.  It is just 50 miles north of the north gate in Gardiner, Montana.

Here you will find exhibits which depict the history of Livingston and the railway travel to Yellowstone. Just over 100 years ago, life was quite different in Montana, with the railways being ‘king of the road’.  Today we can drive from Livingston to Gardiner in an hour and then tour through Yellowstone NP in the comfort of our own vehicle.  The exhibits at the Livingston Depot Center give us a new appreciation for the traveler of the early 20th century.

In addition to the historic exhibits, the Depot is also a community cultural center.  With a mission to promote the arts, culture, and history of the area, the Depot is also a focal point for events such at the Festival of the Arts and Blues at the Depot.

Livingston has grown into a quaint yet vibrant western town.  It is worth a stop there to get a true flavor a ‘big little town’, filled with plenty to do and lots of friendly people.  Take some time to stop at the Depot Center  and see how this town was founded and the important role it played in the early days of our national parks tourism.
