Yellowstone Gateway Museum

Livingston Montana

The Yellowstone Gateway Museum is a must-see on your list of things to do as you travel through Montana.  It is located in Livingston, MT, just as you your make the turn to drive south along highway 89 towards Yellowstone National Park.  Plan a day or two in Livingston before you head toward the park.  Here you will find authentic Montana culture, small town hospitality, and history of the Yellowstone area, along with modern day dining, art, and entertainment.

Exhibits include information on Native cultures, expeditions that took place in the area, pioneer living, and the local military history.  Here you will get an idea of what life was like in this area as it was homesteaded, and as it became the gateway to our first national Park, Yellowstone.  Learn about the Corps of Discovery, as Lewis and Clark traveled through the area on their quest to discover a waterway to connect the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans.  The exhibits are for young and old alike.  Kids can have hands on experience by dressing in period clothing or trying out the room's large spiral.

In addition to the permanent exhibits, temporary exhibts showcase various areas of interest from the Park County area. Look for art, period furnishings, historic reenactments, and tributes to local military and first responders.

Check the website for hours of operation.  Of course there is a gift shop on the premises and helpful docents to answer your questions.
