Early Spring in Glacier National Park

Sacred Dancing Falls

It is April and Glacier National Park is waking up to warmer weather, melting ice and snow, and the plowing of the Going to the Sun Road (GTTSR).  This is a special time of year in the park.  Although vehicle access is limited across the park, it is a great time to experience the quiet of nature via foot or bicycle.

Imagine walking in the middle of the GTTSR, casually viewing the tall trees, the sky above, the snow peaked mountain tops, the sprouting of wild flowers along the side of the road.  Catch a trail along side of McDonald Creek that takes you to Dancing Sacred Falls and then down to the head of Lake McDonald. The view is spectacular.  Watch for wildlife in the forest, the waters, and the sky.

Check the park’s website for the progress that is being made by the plowing crew.  This will let you know how far up the road you can drive and where foot and bicycle traffic is permitted.  As always, make sure to check the weather before you go.

Spring in the Rockies is a great time to get outdoors and then to come home to your favorite B&B to snuggle by the fire.  Restaurants and bars are not crowded.  Traffic is light.  Check out our nearby B&B’s below for accommodations.
