Yellowstone Snowcoach Tours
West Yellowstone, Montana is the perfect place to launch your winter visit into Yellowstone National Park. Although the road at the northwest gate is closed to traffic in winter, the park is open. The best way to get to Old Faithful or to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is via snowcoach.
Relax inside a heated snowcoach while viewing the winter wonderland outside the window. Stops are made along the way at Fountain Paint Pot, and Madison Junction, to name a few. The coach will also stop for wildlife viewing.
Winter is a great time to see bison, elk, deer, wolves, and foxes. Over 50 species of birds are said to live in the park in winter. Look for trumpeter swans, bald eagles, hairy woodpeckers, goldeneyes, American dipper, and of course ravens. The Madison and Firehole rivers flow all winter and provide excellent habitat for birds.
Visits to the park in winter can be for just a day or for several days. Once in the park, cross country skiing is a great way to get around. Snowmobile rentals also provide a way to explore the park further.
