Columbia Falls - Gateway to Glacier National Park

Flathead Valley

The small town of Columbia Falls makes a perfect base camp as it is perfectly positioned between Whitefish, Kalispell, and West Glacier.  The west gate to Glacier National Park is only 20 minutes away.  Drive 20 minutes in the other direction to visit Flathead Lake.

Just south of the convergence of the middle and south forks, the Flathead River runs through the town of Columbia Falls.  Nearby is the Hungry Horse Dam and Reservoir.  The Hungry Horse provides excellent opportunities for camping, kayaking, boating and fishing.  The visitors’ Center is open in the Summer, with displays about the building of the dam.

Some of the annual events in Columbia Falls include the Nights of Lights Parade to celebrate the holidays in December and Heritage Days in July.  The downtown area is on Nucleus Ave.  Fun things to do include Thursday evenings at the Farmer’s Market at the Coop with live music, food, and shopping, and the Rodeo at the Blue Moon.  The Meadow Lake Golf Course is popular with the locals as well as summer visitors.

Our MTBBA member, Bad Rock Bed and Breakfast has been hosting visitors to the Flathead Valley for more than 25 years.  Check them out for a quiet, convenient place to stay while in the Glacier Park area.
