West Yellowstone - 4 Seasons of outdoor fun

West Yellowstone

At the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park sits the four season town of West Yellowstone. Although many stay just long enough to continue into the park, those in the know plan to stay for several days to enjoy the area and its beauty.

This bustling little town has plenty of things to do.  Hiking, blue ribbon fishing, Nordic skiing, dog sledding, ice fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, white water rafting, and wildlife viewing bring the outdoors alive.  Look for elk, deer, and bear.  In town go on a walking tour, visit the Yellowstone Historic Center Museum, or attend the theater.

At an elevation of over 6,500 feet, West Yellowstone has a long and snowy cross country ski season.  The Rendezvous Ski Trails are located in the surrounding US Forest Service land. With over 35 kilometers of groomed trails, there are days of skiing waiting to be explored.

When ready to move on, catch the snowcoach into Yellowstone National Park.  It is the only way to get into the interior of the park in winter.  Check with local outfitters for more information.

Not just the Entry to Yellowstone National Park, but a mecca for enjoying the outdoors all year long.  Fishing and hiking in Summer. Cross country skiing in winter.  Look for the Yellowstone Ski Festival, Yellowstone Rendezvous Race, and the Taste of the Trails for fun winter events.

South of Big Sky and Bozeman, Montana and north of Idaho Falls, ID, West Yellowstone is the crossroads to the park, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.
